Women's Lacrosse Upended by Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at Home
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – Lawrence Tech (Mich.) – who is tied with Reinhardt at No. 5 in the NAIA – overcame an early 3-1 deficit in the first four minutes to come from behind and trounce the Eagles on their home field, 22-8, Monday afternoon inside Ken White Field at University Stadium.
The hometown team fell to 5-2 on the season after the defeat, one in which the Blue Raiders exploded in the final 20 minutes of the first half to the tune of a 12-3 run to head to the locker room with a 13-6 advantage.
Lawrence Tech didn't stop there, either, as it netted another shot in the opening seconds of the final half of play. Reinhardt would respond with a tally of its own, but the Blue Raiders would register eight of the last nine scores on the afternoon – including the final half-dozen netted shots to win in a runaway.
Katie Yarish (three assists), Morgan McGhee (two assists) and Caroline Copenhaver all scored twice for the Eagles.
Syd McHale, who earlier Monday was tabbed the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, was stellar defensively again with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
McGhee also scooped up five ground balls, forced four miscues and picked up three draw controls.
It's back to AAC foes on Wednesday afternoon against Columbia (S.C.) at home.
First whistle is set for 2 p.m.
