WALESKA, Ga. – No. 5 Reinhardt bounced back from its lone defeat on the year with an impressive performance in a non-conference victory over No. 7 Marian (Ind.), 17-6, inside Ken White Field at University Stadium on Thursday night.
The Eagles improved to 4-1 after an efficient showing on both sides of the ball, including in-net with Jessica Landers, who stopped 15 Knight shots in the win.
"We knew Marian would be a great team and they showed it out of the gate," head coach Roy Reynolds said. "Some adjustments and truly outstanding performances from our defense and great offensive movement helped us pull ahead. Also, a stellar performance in-goal by Jessie Landers helped us close out the win."
Marian was able to jump on Reinhardt early with three goals in the first nine-plus minutes to move ahead, 3-1. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles would tie the score, only to have the Knights move back in front at 4-3.
From there, however, it was about the hometown team.
Reinhardt finished the half on a 7-0 run to go into the locker room up, 10-4. The scoring spree continued into the second period with three more goals for the Eagles (10-0 run in about 22 minutes) before Marian got back on the board at 21:56 remaining in the contest.
The Knights were unable to get anything going the rest of the way due to dominant defense and smooth offense for the Eagles as they finished the game scoring four of the last five netted shots overall.
Reinhardt own a ground ball advantage of 40-27, and Morgan McGhee (a half-dozen draw controls) was out-front with 10 overall to go with a team-best five goals and a pair of assists. Katie Yarish was next up with four scores and four assists to lead the squad.
Caroline Copenhaver added three goals, four draw controls and nine ground balls.
Scoring Summary
Goals: Morgan McGhee 5; Katie Yarish 4; Caroline Copenhaver 3; Sarah Inman 2; Alyssa Klinger 2; Mackenzie Modica 1
Assists: Katie Yarish 4; Audrey Frost 3; Amaya Garner 2; Morgan McGhee 2; Sarah Inman 1; Katie Williams 1
