Headrick, Shope Named First Team All-Conference by AAC Coaches
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After a second-place finish in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings under first-year head coach Toby Wagoner – and a record of 25-2 (22-2 AAC) – Bethany Headrick and Catherine Shope were both named First Team All-Conference by the league on Wednesday night.
The AAC coaches believed that both Headrick (Second Team) and Shope (Freshmen Team) took another step forward in 2019-20 after being on those aforementioned lists one season ago.
As Reinhardt's leading scorer – primarily off the bench – Shope was averaging 16.7 points each time out on the floor for Wagoner and company. The sophomore from Woodstock, Ga., was also relentless on the defensive side as well, taking home All-Defensive accolades for her non-stop motor and effort.
The play-making guard pulled down 5.5 rebounds per game while earning 33 steals.
For her work in the community off the basketball court, Shope was the Eagles' representative on the AAC's Champions of Character Team as well.
Headrick, the Ringgold, Ga., native who was also tabbed All-Academic, was second on the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game with nearly a double-double average with nine rebounds each time out. Headrick started in all 27 matchups this season, highlighted by 22 points against Kentucky Christian on Nov. 23.
She also put up the third-most double-doubles in the AAC (13), with her best rebounding performance – 15 boards – coming against three different opponents.
In addition to Headrick, five more teammates were named to the All-Academic squad within the league.
