Waleska, GA. - In a challenging AAC conference match-up on Friday afternoon, the Reinhardt University softball team fell to the Johnson University Royals with the final scores of 1-4 and 0-1 at home.
In game one, despite taking an early lead with a run in the first inning, the Eagles struggled to maintain momentum against their staunch opponents. Reinhardt's only run came from Eryn Lee, who managed to cross home plate early in the game, giving Eagles fans a moment of hope. This effort was backed by Ansley Hight, who secured the run with a crucial RBI. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this would be their only major offensive highlight.
The game's pivotal moments came during the fifth inning when the Royals turned the tables by scoring four runs, seizing the lead and ultimately the victory. Anslie Pettit, the starting pitcher for Reinhardt, showcased notable resilience with five strikeouts but couldn't prevent the late surge from Johnson.
Game two saw a stellar pitching performance by Bella Krauth, who notched 6 strikeouts. However, the Eagles could not fend off their opponents in this defensive battle. Throughout the game, both teams showcased strong defensive skills, but it was Johnson that managed to break the deadlock in the fourth inning. This lone run proved to be the decisive factor in the contest, ultimately handing Johnson the win.
The Eagles, now standing at 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the AAC, look forward to redeeming themselves in their next outing. Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to host Bryan College in another AAC showdown at home on Saturday, March 8th, starting at 4 PM. Reinhardt aims to bounce back and add another win to their record against their conference opponents.
