Eagles Push Their Way to the AAC Championship Game
Kingsport, TN - RU Softball keeps the wins coming with a 7-6 victory over AAC rival - TN Wesleyan! The win puts the Eagles into the championship game and they will find out their opponent after the Friday morning games. The Eagles are in the driver's seat of this tournament! The team that makes their way into the championship must beat Reinhardt twice to win it all.
Whitney Shepherd got the start for the Eagles in their third game of the AAC Tournament. She picked up her third win pitching a complete game with 3 strikeouts! It was a tough outing for the Eagles facing a talented Bulldogs lineup that got 9 hits and scored 6 runs in the game, however, the offense did what they needed to do and Shepherd could close out the top of the seventh without giving up any runs.
Reinhardt got great production from Taylor Wade and Eryn Lee. Both went 2 for 3 with both scoring 2 runs. Wade, along with Alexis Teems and Anlsey Evans, all had 2 RBIs in the game.
The Eagles had a great fourth inning where they scored 5 runs. The runs came from a few mistakes by the Bulldogs, but the bats of Reinhardt were able to get the runs across the plate. Taylor Wade's double scored Lee and Alexis Griffith. Later, Ansley Evans singled to score Molly Stevens and Teems.
Teems single to center field in the fifth inning that scored Lee was the one-run difference in the game. At the end of the fifth, Reinhardt had a solid 6-3 lead but that was lost from 3 runs scored by Tenessee Wesleyan in the top of the sixth.
It was what you would expect from two top teams battling out on the field and the Eagles did just enough to move onto the AAC Championship. They still have a lot of work to do, but they could not be in a better spot to win the tournament.
The final game is set for 1 pm. Tennessee Wesleyan will face Johnson University in the morning game with the winner heading to the finals to face our Eagles. All games can be seen on the AAC Sports Network or Southeast Sports Network on YouTube.
