Shepherd Pitches 8-0 Shutout in Second Game of the AAC Tournament
Kingsport, TN - Reinhardt Softball had a complete reverse of the opening game of the AAC Softball Tournament. In game one, the Eagles had to claw their way to come from behind to stay in the winner's bracket. In Wednesday's game, the Eagles led early and kept the Brenau Golden Tigers from scoring moving steadily to the third round. Whitney Shepherd got the start for the Eagles and picked up the win in the 5-inning shortened game, 8-0!
Shepherd had 3 strikeouts for the Eagles and scattered 6 hits over the five innings. The highlighted stat of the game was that Shepherd and the defense kept the Golden Tigers at zero on the scoreboard which assured them of moving on to the next round.

Offensively, the Eagles scored six in the first couple of innings which ultimately shut the door on Brenau. Alexis Griffith and Alexis Teems both were 2 for 3 in the game with Griffith picking up one RBI and scoring a run. Teems had two runs scored in the game as well as catcher, Molly Stevens. Eryn Lee had 2 RBIs in the game going 1 for 3 at the plate.
After scoring six runs early, the Eagles went on a scoreless streak of their own in the third and fourth, but they were able to get two across the plate in the fifth to run-rule the game and get out of the park early.
Reinhardt will have their toughest matchup of the tournament on Thursday with much riding on the game. The Eagles will face rival Tennessee Wesleyan at 3 pm at Brickyard Park with the winner sitting in the driver's seat the rest of the way. The winner automatically moves to the championship game and the loser will need to play a play-in game Friday morning to make it to the finals. The championship final is set for 1 pm on Friday with a 3 pm "if necessary" game at 3 pm.
