By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
MARIETTA, Ga. – The hometown Eagles put up a strong fight once again to the Running Eagles of Life (Ga.) inside Mid-South Conference (MSC) play on Tuesday night, but the hosts came away with another league victory, 3-1 (17-25,25-23,22-25,20-25).
The offenses played well on both sides of the net as the Running Eagles posted a hitting percentage of .274, while Reinhardt (4-14, 2-6 MSC) hit the ball at a .213 clip. Ball control and placement of shots stepped up a notch and helped the Eagles tone down on the errors (16), where as Life committed 27 miscues to make life harder on itself.
Individually, Chase Cross shined bright with 18 kills in 36 attempts (.361), and Matthew Corrales (.296) spiked a swing 13 times as well.
Of the hometown Eagles' kills, 33 of them were assisted – and of that total – 29 dimes belonged to Ricardo Mujica.
Mujica has a second-best five digs, behind the 12 picked up by Reynaldo Medina.
The block performed well again for the hometown club with a combined 12 rejections. John Hynes guided the charge with three solos and a pair of assisted blocks.
The team takes a brief step out of NAIA competition over the next couple of days, the first of which is on the road at NCAA Division II Limestone (S.C.) tomorrow at 7 p.m.
