Two Top AAC Teams Battle it Out at Ken White Field
Waleska, GA - On Saturday afternoon, the Men's Soccer Team welcomed St. Andrews to Ken White Field for a battle between two of the better teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The Eagles were coming off a good win against Point University and the Women's Team was on a win streak after beating Columbia during the week.
There are not really any dazzling stats for the game since it ended with a zero to zero tie. Reinhardt actually had a few times to score, but the ball just barely missed or banged off the top crossbar of the goal. Blake White probably had the best chance of the game when a pass come into him right in front of the goal. He had a little time and he used it to set up his right foot. He attempted to smash the ball passed the keeper, however, as it looked as if it were going to go in the goal - the ball pinged off the top crossbar allowing the Knight's goalkeeper to pick up an important save.
Each time had their own chances to score in the game, but the tight, physical play made getting off a clean shot very difficult. The Eagles led with 14 shots on goal and 8 of those shots were on goal. St. Andrews had 10 total shots on goal with 6 of them being on target. Niko Tzevelekos ended up with 5 saves in the game.
Blake White led the Eagles with 5 total shots and 2 were directly on goal. Aaron Whitten and Rafael Pais each had 3 shots each and one each directly at the keeper.
The tie keeps Reinhardt in the running for one of the top spots in the league, but it allowed the Knights to squeeze into first place for now. A lot of shifting will take place as the season progresses and the leaders play each other. Currently, the Eagles are in the fourth position in the AAC with another big conference game coming up on Wednesday evening when the Lions of Bryan College comes to town. It should be a fun night of soccer for the fans and student body of Reinhardt University. The Athletic Department has some special things planned for the game and some things to give out. Come out and support the Men's and Women's teams as they keep their successful seasons going.
