WALESKA, Ga. - Life (Ga.) was able to erase a 1-0 halftime hole and net a pair of shots over the final 25 minutes to come away victorious against the 24th-ranked Eagles at Ken White Field at University Stadium on Saturday evening.
Reinhardt falls to 1-3 in defeat after Taylor Gray scored the match-opening goal in the 12th minute, but the Eagles just couldn't quite connect on additional chances throughout the game.
"It was a match where both teams had momentum in different phases, and both created quality opportunities that were there to be capitalized on," head coach Joey Johnson said. In the end, against quality opponents, the margins for error are small and unforgiving on both sides of the ball. I believe in our young team and am looking forward to the opportunity to personally work harder to prepare our team for the challenging AAC schedule that lies ahead."
The Running Eagles finally broke into the scorebook in the 66th minute to tie the match at 1-1. From there, both teams had multiple chances to take the advantage back, but it was Life who made the game-altering play with just 64 seconds remaining on the clock.
The hometown team never really had a clear chance to tie the score and head to extra time as the clock expired.
Each club put up a number of chances as they combined for 41 shots. Of the Eagles' 18 attempts, Eric Weixlbaumer had a half-dozen.
Niko Tzevelekos had a valiant in-net effort with 11 saves in the loss.
Reinhardt has time to put in some work on the practice field in preparation for its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener on Sept. 15 against Union (Ky.) on the road at 3 p.m.
