Eagles Lacrosse Open Season with Big Win at SCAD
David Finney
Atlanta, GA - Eagles Men's Lacrosse officially started their season on Saturday with a conference game with SCAD, however, they have played several games so far as exhibition games and have won big in each. They have played Shorter University (NCAA DII), Auburn University (NCAA DI), Lagrange College (NCAA DIII), and Georgia Tech (NCAA DI - Club Team) to open the season. The Defending NAIA National Champions winning ways have continued as new Head Coach Tyler Yelkin takes over to keep the Reinhardt Lacrosse tradition moving forward. Of course, it is big shoes to fill, but the foundation has been laid and Yelkin has seemed to have reloaded with new talent to go with the veterans and keep the program moving forward.
The AAC conference game with SCAD began with SCAD scoring the first goal of the game around the eight-minute mark to take an early 1-0 lead. This was the last time that SCAD would have a lead in the game as Carter Maurice quickly answered with a goal for the Eagles that would tie the game at 1-1. After this, the barrage of goals started coming for the Eagles. Cameron Cochran followed Maurice with another goal to take the lead for Reinhardt 2-1. The first quarter would end with the Eagles up, 4-1.
In the second quarter, Cochran would get the first strike again putting Reinhardt up 5-1. The quarter and game would belong to NAIA All-American, Dillan Bousquet, who scored three quick goals for the Eagles. Reinhardt would go into the halftime break leading 8-2.
The second half would see the Eagles continue their scoring outburst that would extend their lead over SCAD. SCAD was able to get six goals in the game - two in the first half and four in the second half, however, the game was never in question as the Eagles would add 13 goals in the second half giving Reinhardt the 21-6 victory.
Dillan Bousquet would lead Reinhardt in goals with 9 on 13 shots. He was followed by Titus Thind who had 4 goals on 13 shots. Carter Maurice had two goals and Cameron Cochran had three goals to help the Eagles. Liam Wright was in goal for Reinhardt and had 6 saves on 12 shot attempts.
The Eagles have started strong and are looking for opponents to play. They have a two-weekend break before they get back to playing when they travel to Florida to take on Webber International on Saturday, March 5th. In addition, Reinhardt will be hosting the AAC Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and Championship game in mid/late April.
