Men Finish Second at SCAD, Women Make Strides

COVINGTON, Ga. – Both golf teams were back in action over the weekend in Covington, Ga., in the SCAD-Atlanta Invitational, and each club had a variety of highlights out on the course.
The men's squad followed up an opening round cumulative of 4-under-par with an even second day overall to finish in second-place behind the Bears of Truett-McConnell (Ga.). The Eagles shot 848 in the three-round event.
A pair of Reinhardt golfers, Christopher Whitney and Hunter Clay, wrapped up their tournaments in third-place and a tie for fourth overall, respectively. Whitney led the Eagles at 7-under (69-69-68; 206), while Clay was also under par at 3-under (71-71-68; 210).
Additionally, Whitney made a hole-in-one on the seventh in the opening round.
Jake McWhorter and Brooks Gineris (+4 overall) each finished tied for 13th, and Jack Haller moved up three spots to finish tied for 27th at 14-over.
The other side of the course for the Eagles was guided by Lauren Welte, who carded a T27 (80-78; 158) on the par-71 Oaks layout. Katie Kauffman, who shot a 79 in round one, finished with an 81 and a tie for 33rd-place in the tournament.
Meg McCord moved up three spots on day two with an 82.
The men's group tees off next in just over a week at the Thomas Invitational in Valdosta, Ga., on Sept. 23-24, while the women have about a month to prepare for the AAC Preview, hosted by Brenau (Ga.), on Oct. 14-15.
