Golf Tees off New Season With Point Invitational
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WEST POINT, Ga. - Both the men's and women's golf teams for Reinhardt teed it up for the first time in 2019-20, as the Eagle groups competed in the two-day Point Invitational over the weekend.
The men were able to rebound nicely on day two, bouncing back from a 300-shot total to a 1-under-par 283 on Sunday afternoon.
Individually, Jake McWhorter finished the tournament in the top 10 with a 3-under 68 final round to sign his cards at 2-under overall and get a slot at eighth-place on the leaderboard. McWhorter's first career round under 70 helped Reinhardt finish fourth as a team out of nine qualifying clubs.
The personal bests were not done there, either, as a pair of women's golfers played their best in the initial event of the season. Meg McCord on Saturday shot a 79, and on Sunday, Lauren Welte shot 78 - each was the first time either player broke 80 in their careers.
Additional information on the women's tournament will be revealed when it becomes available.
Both teams hit the links again this week at the SCAD-Atlanta Invitational beginning on Saturday.
