The Early Season Struggles Continue for the Eagles on the Road
Grayson, KY - Reinhardt Baseketball's final AAC game of 2023 ended with a road matchup with the Knights of Kentucky Christian. The Eagles came in short-handed with a few key players missing making the road game that much harder to overcome. Nate Louis and Brandon Barron both did not make the trip to Kentucky and their presence missing was felt in the game as the Eagles would end up losing 99-67.
This AAC road game would start just as many have for the Eagles in this first half of the season as the team would keep pace with the Knights a majority of the half but struggles shooting and turnovers would end up allowing Kentucky Christian to open up an eleven point lead with just seven minutes left in the half and they would not look back. The turnovers ended up becoming easy baskets for the Knights and the Eagles would trail 45-27 at the break.
The second half saw the Knights keep this point spread for the remainder of the second half and eventually push it to thirty points before the halfway point of the second half.
Redshirt Freshman, Brasen James, led the Eagles with 17 points and had a few bright moments. Nate Jones, who has led the Eagles this season in scoring, kept pace with James scoring 17 as well. Nekhi Fisher and Derrian Reed both came off the bench to score 7 and 11 respectively for the Eagles.
Unfortunately, the Eagles will not have another chance at home as 2023 comes to an end to get another win under the belt before the second half of the season cranks back up in 2024, but they do have an exhibition game at Augusta University on Monday, December 18th. The next official game will be on January 2nd, 2024 where the Eagles will host St. Andrews at the Brown Athletic Center.
