Eagles Can't Stop Yellow Jackets in Season Finale
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The first year of the Justin Newton era at Reinhardt officially came to a close on Saturday night after the Yellow Jackets of Allen (S.C.) took care of business on their home floor, 80-65, after exploding for 50 points in the second half.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 7-22 overall, and 6-18 inside the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The opening half was a tight one, as both squads battled back and forth before heading to the locker rooms with the Yellow Jackets ahead by one, 30-29. The contest got away from the Eagles in the second stanza, however, as Allen put up half-a-hundred to pull away in the final 20 minutes.
The brightest star on the court for the hometown squad was Chris Rogers and his 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting and nine rebounds. Jamison Syphore got the start and had 15 points and nine boards as well, as Reinhardt finished at 37.1 percent from the floor (26-of-70) and made just 7-of-18 from the charity stripe.
Josh Daniels also added eight points to go along with his nine rebounds and three dimes.
Stay tuned for postseason awards from the AAC as the team looks ahead to the offseason and building a foundation for 2020-21.
