Rams Bully Eagles in South Carolina
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four starters in double figures and 19 makes at the free throw line enabled the Rams of Columbia International (S.C.) to even the overall season series with the Eagles after they defended their home court, 86-71, in South Carolina Saturday night.
On the Reinhardt side of the court, the hometown club was guided by three players in the double-digit scoring category – led by 19 tallies and four rebounds from Dwayne Wilson. He was joined at the 10-plus-point plateau by both Blake McIntyre and Josh Daniels, who each netted 13.
The Rams hit a 3-pointer just seconds into the matchup and never looked back as the Eagles were never able to tie or take the lead in the first half, despite coming within one possession on multiple occasions, and fell into a 10-point deficit with just under a minute left until halftime (40-30).
An eight-point hole after 20 minutes of play (42-34) got down to two possessions on the first basket of the second half, but it gradually grew throughout the final period to a game-high 22 points with just under eight minutes left (70-48).
Reinhardt would show a lot of fight and quickly go on a 9-0 run to get back within 13 tallies, but the Rams would punch back and keep the Eagles from getting any closer the rest of the way.
As a team, Reinhardt shot 28-of-69 from the floor (40.6 percent) in defeat.
The Cavaliers of Montreat (N.C.) make a return trip to Waleska on Feb. 19 on Senior Night for Reinhardt.
Tip is set for approximately 7:30 p.m.
