Bulldogs Hand Eagles A Road AAC Loss, 75-65
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
ATHENS, Tenn. – Twenty-one points off the bench from Dwayne Wilson wasn't enough for men's basketball on Wednesday night against Tennessee Wesleyan, as the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half in a 75-65 decision within Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
The hosts were able to overcome a 7-for-12 night from Wilson and two other teammates in double figures – Marcus Kirkland (12) and Blake McIntyre (10) – to earn another triumph against Reinhardt after outscoring the Eagles 37-30 in the second half.
It was a game full of momentum swings and drama, as Tennessee Wesleyan opened up a 5-0 start only to see Reinhardt take the lead on multiple occasions and earn a 20-14 advantage with 10:06 remaining until intermission. Over the next seven minutes, however, the Bulldogs would storm back and regain the upper-hand with a 22-4 spree (36-24).
The tide didn't stop turning there, either, as the Eagles closed the half with an 11-2 run to get within three points at halftime.
The hometown team would get within one possession on a couple of occasions early in the second half, but Tennessee Wesleyan would steadily stretch the lead to double digits – as high as 18 late in the game – before Reinhardt chipped away at the deficit until the very last whistle.
Josh Daniels also netted 9 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals in the loss.
Additionally, Chris Rogers led the way on the glass with five rebounds along with four points. A trio of Eagles also grabbed four boards each as well.
Reinhardt was able to connect on 22-for-48 (45.8 percent) and hit nine shots from deep in 22 attempts.
The squad (5-14, 4-10 AAC) now looks ahead to a week off before heading to Point (Ga.) for another league road battle on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
