Alice Lloyd Too Strong for Eagles Tuesday
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – Men's basketball stepped outside the Appalachian Athletic Conference on Tuesday evening and welcomed another group of Eagles to the Brown Athletic Center, but visiting Alice Lloyd (Ky.) wasn't so kind to Reinhardt in an 89-67 road victory.
The Eagles from Kentucky used a big second half – 51 points – to pull away from their hosts and send the hometown team to a 3-6 mark overall.
"We are not very good right now because we are wildly inconsistent with our effort and concentration, which is entirely my fault," head coach Justin Newton said. "I've got to find out what makes this team go and I haven't done that; not the guys' fault. I will do better, and we'll work towards going in the right direction and keep it going that way. Thanks to the Reinhardt faithful for cheering us on – we'll do better."
Three players hit double-digit scoring for Reinhardt on the night, led once again by Josh Daniels' 18 points. He was joined in double figures by the duo of Marcus Kirkland (15) and Dwayne Wilson (11).
Seventeen turnovers on the offensive end, however, allowed Alice Lloyd to shoot nearly 50 percent for the game and take its 10-point advantage at halftime (38-28) and more than double it the rest of the way.
Conversely, the hometown Eagles shot 38.5 percent, but couldn't find any real rhythm on either side of the ball to close the gap down the stretch.
Kirkland was able to lead the squad in rebounds and assists with seven and three, respectively. Daniels added a trio of thefts as well.
Jervon Walker added 7 points, 6 boards and 3 blocks off the bench.
The month of November closes with the Show at MeadowView, as Reinhardt plays a pair of games, beginning with Rio Grande (Ohio) on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Kingsport, Tenn
