KENNESAW, Ga. – No. 14 Reinhardt made the short drive to the Owls of Kennesaw State – the No. 4 team in the FCS – and stood toe-to-toe with the opposition in a 31-7 weather-shortened game on Saturday night on the road.
The Eagles (3-2) dropped back-to-back contests with the result, but have positives to look forward to after finding a bit of a groove before the game was called at 5:45 left in the third quarter.
"Thought the kids' fight was great and we had some momentum before it got canceled," lead Eagle James Miller said. Really proud of this football team as they [Kennesaw State] scored on fourth down twice, so we made them work. We have some big-time football coming up that I'm excited to watch this team continue to grow and improve as a football team."
The offense got off to a slow start after getting a first down on the opening drive of the game. A subpar punt put the Owls in prime position to grab the momentum early, and Kennesaw State returned the favor with a 35-yard touchdown drive in just over two minutes.
The Owls made another stop after an Eagle first down, and then would travel 73 yards for a score – highlighted by a fourth down run at the one-yard-line that was upheld after the call on the field stood according to video review. About four minutes later, the score would move to 21-0 after yet another fourth-down score, a 44-yard scamper.
The points would continue to pour in for the hosts as another short run and a 40-yard field goal moved the spread to 31-0 with 4:18 remaining in the first half.
Reinhardt would then put together its best series of the night and go 74 yards in just over a minute. Highlights included a 25-yard reception on the first play of the drive to Montralius Mosely, a 17-yarder to Trevae Cain and a 21-yard scramble into the paint by Billy Hall.
The defense would stop Kennesaw State multiple times in the third quarter and get an interception from defensive tackle Trey Teasely, who would make some moves and return it 25 yards to the Owl 45-yard-line.
Mother Nature had other ideas, however, as the first-ever battle on the gridiron between these two schools was cut short after a 49-minute delay.
Hall finished with 70 yards passing and his touchdown run. The Eagles as a team ran for just 29 on the ground.
Miles Corpening was out front on defense – on that collected six tackles for-loss – with five total tackles.
Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division play begins next with a visit to Kentucky Christian in a 1:30 p.m. matchup.
