WALESKA, Ga. – (Coach Miller Postgame Video) The Eagles notched their first win of 2019 on Saturday in a 16-6 lightning-shortened outing against Webber International (Fla.) in a battle of two hard-nosed defensive performances.
Reinhardt (1-0) got a field goal in the first quarter from Alex Hardy from 16 yards out to take the early 3-0 advantage, and the score would hold until halftime as both squads would keep the opposing offenses quiet.
An interception by Sidney Hamm set up the game's first touchdown on the opening possession of the second half, as Montralius Mosely plowed into the paint from nine yards out. A missed extra-point would then follow to make the score, 9-0, early in the second half.
The Eagle defense – which gave up only 160 yards and four yards on the ground – continued to flex its muscles the rest of the period, consistently creating havoc and being in the Warriors' backfield. That effort, especially on the defensive line, allowed Reinhardt to get the ball back in the end zone thanks to M'Calun Lanier and his four-yard score.
Webber International was able to get on the scoreboard mid-fourth quarter after driving the length of the field. The Warriors capped off the possession with a 10-yard pass, but failed on a two-point conversion attempt that would've got the game to 16-8.
The Eagles got the ball back on the ensuing drive and methodically drove down the field before the game was delayed with 4:07 remaining in the fourth – which would eventually turn into the final score as lightning continued to stay in the area.
The hometown team ran for 275 yards and was led by Mosely's 70 on 12 carries. Trevae Cain added 54, as did quarterback Billy Hall – who threw for 80 yards as well.
JT Graydon began his junior year right where he left off a season ago with a pair of sacks and 2.5 tackles for-loss. He led the team in tackles with five. Matthew Prather (one sack) and Satchel Crawford each tallied four stops in the triumph.
Reinhardt has a bye week next week before coming back home to take on the Bears of Pikeville (Ky.) on Sept. 7 with a start time of 1:30 p.m. in Waleska.
