Early Pitching Issues and Costly Errors Create Hole for Eagles
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Baseball has been one of the hottest teams in the NAIA over the past several weeks, but that came to a halt today with a midweek home game versus Faulkner University. It took a while before the bats could get somewhat going and early pitching and field issues put the game out of reach early. The Eagles gave up runs in six of the nine innings and several of those innings had multi-runs scored. Although the Eagles got the game within four runs late, they would lose in the single game, 12-7.
Reinhardt ended up going through six pitchers in the game with none pitching more than two innings. Cobey Allison got the start on the mound and he did not seem to have his typical swagger and command of the game. Allison gave up 2 hits and 2 runs in the first inning and that would be all that he would pitch in the game. Blake Rogers, who had been masterful at times this season, had the same type of issues as Allison and he gave up 4 hits and 4 runs. This 6-0 start put the Eagles in a big hole which they could not escape.
Reinhardt would finish the way with Hunter Paulsen, Evan Venable, Hal Steljus, and Carson Bennink. Paulsen, Steljus, and Bennink probably had the best games on the mound for the Eagles as each would only give up a run with their two innings pitched each. Steljust recorded 2 strikeouts to lead the Eagles and only allowed two hits.

Offensively, the Eagles struggled to get runs going in the game. They were able to get one run across the plate in the second inning when Adrian Vargas scored on a fielder's choice play. Vargas ended the day with two RBIs to lead the Eagles along with Parker Doyle. Vargas was 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored to go along with his 2 RbiIs.
Besides RBIs from Vargas and Doyle, Same Kilgore, Luis Mendoza, and Jacob Profit all had one RBI each in the game. Dylan Lewis had the only multi-base hit in the game with a double in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Eagles scored 2 of their 7 runs.
Reinhardt will get back to AAC play on Thursday and Friday this week. They have adjusted the schedule some to deal with possible incoming rain at the end of the week. The Eagles will play a doubleheader on Thursday with game one starting at noon and then they will have the single game on Friday (weather permitting).
