Eagles Breakout the Bats on Day Three of the Southeast Rumble
Waleska, GA - The Ru Eagles won their first game of the Southeast Rumble on Friday evening and then they all day Saturday off while the other teams in the tournament competed at Ken White Field. The Eagles were ready to get it going on Sunday with two games - the first at 11 am and the next at 5:45 pm. The Eagles were able to get a lot of run support in each game and the pitching staff hung on to secure the two wins for the #20 ranked Eagles.
GAME ONE
In game one, the Eagles matched up with Indiana Southeast and it did not take long for the Eagles to get things going. Parker Miller would get the starting job for the Eagles and he would have a pretty good showing going 4.1 innings and only allowing one run. Cobey Allison, Gabriel Sjostrom, Michael Reed, and Hunter Paulsen all got time in relief for the Eagles and each had moments of success. Michael Reed and Hunter Paulsen were the only ones to record strikeouts in the game with Reed having one and Paulsen getting two. Indiana Southeast were only able to score in the fifth and seven innings only allowing one run in each of the innings.
The Eagles were able to score in six of the eight innings of the game spreading the 11 runs over those six innings. Dylan Lewis and Jackson Jarvis both had doubles in the game and Lance Dockery had a triple to keep his hot back going. Dawson Johns homered in the fourth inning getting the Eagles to the 4-0 lead. Reinhardt would continue to get runs across the plate in the final innings.
The runs were too much for Indiana Southeast and the Eagles were able to start preparing for the final game of the day.
GAME TWO
Game Two began a lot closer than the previous games for the Eagles. Reinhardt jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs, but then Faulkner tightened up on defense and did not allow another run until the fifth inning. Faulkner caught back up in the third inning before the Eagles scored two more in the fifth putting them up 5 to 3. They were able to add one more in the sixth inning, however, Faulkner was able to add two runs in the seventh.
The score was very tight after the top of the seven at 6-5 Reinhardt and then the floodgates opened up for the Eagles offense in a disastrous eighth inning for Faulkner. Reinhardt was able to get six runs in the bottom of the eighth, which basically put the game away and added another win for the program as they head into conference play this week.
The highlight of game two would come from Jarrett Burney who ripped a long home run in the eighth, which scored three runs on the play. He also was able to double in the game. Burney was 4 for 5 in the game with the home run and four RBIs.
There were several Eagles that had great games that included Jordan Hampton who got the start and went six innings and recorded six strikeouts. The was joined by Blake Rogers who had a great game pitching as well. It was able to get out of two tight spots in his three innings. Rogers had 4 strikeouts and was hitting the low 90s on the radar.
Lance Dockery continued his hot bat with two doubles in the game along with Tucker Zdunich who got two goals as well. Dawson Johns, Jarrett Burney, and Alex Coulter all had doubles in this game as well.
The Eagles will be on the road Tuesday with a matchup with Brewton Parker University and then returning for the weekend series with Point University.
