Waleska, Ga. - As the regular season winds down, moving for position and getting big wins is key in order to keep your season going after the regular season and beyond. The Eagles picked up two key wins today beating Tennessee Wesleyan 8-6 in game one and 2-1 in game two.
Pablo Barquero would get the start in game one and it would not be the typical Pablo game on the mound, but also, playing Tennessee Wesleyan is a little different than playing other teams. We have become used to seeing Barquero working his way through games with very few hits and runs, but the Bulldogs were able to get several key hits and home runs throughout the game. Barquero would pitch through six innings and get 5 strikeouts. He would give up 9 hits and 6 runs, however, the Eagles were doing the same to the Bulldogs Pitching. Parker Miller would come in to relieve Barquero and he had almost three innings of great pitching and shut down the offense of Tennessee Wesleyan. Miller would only allow one hit during his time in the game.
Patrick Baggett would start off the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run. A few errors by the Bulldogs let a few more runs get home in the third and fourth innings. The fourth and fifth innings were really big for the Eagles as they would score three runs in each inning. In the fifth inning, Tucker Zdunich and Albert Mora kept the long-ball them going as both hit home runs in the fifth. Zdunich had a solo shot to start the inning and then Mora homered to bring in Xavier Arnette. Zdunich's homer tied the game and Mora's homer gave the Eagles the two-run lead, 8-6
The game would end with an 8-6 lead for the Eagles. Pablo Barquero would get the win and Parker Miller would get the save.
In the second game, the runs would be hard to come by for both teams. Ethan Foley was on the mound and he had his stuff going in this game. He had 4 strikeouts in his seven innings and only allowed one run. Foley had the Bulldogs scrambling for ways to get a hit and they just could not do it. Just like Barquero, Foley has had a great season pitching masterpieces every time his name gets called to pitch and he looks ready to go as the postseason gets closer.
Tucker Zdunich would show off his long-ball talent again in game two as he started off the scoring for the Eagles in the bottom of the first with another solo home run. The only other run (and what ended up being the winning run) happened in the third when Patrick Baggett got a sac ground out to second base which score Jarrett Burney. Burney had singled previously in the inning. Burney had an outstanding day going 5 for 5 total from both games. He was 3 for 3 in game one and 2 for 2 in game two. Both teams would go scoreless from the third inning on and the game would end with a 2-1 win against the nation's #2 team in the NAIA.
Game Three will be on Saturday (approximately 2 pm start time) to finish out the series with Tennessee Wesleyan. After this weekend, the Eagles will have one single game (home) on Wednesday next week and then two more weekend series away with Bryan and CIU. This will end the regular season and then the Eagles will start preparing for the AAC Tournament.
