Point Comes Back to Take Series From RU
By Mike DeVader, Reinhardt Director of Athletic Communications & Media
WALESKA, Ga. – Point (Ga.) was able to leave Ken White Baseball Field with a series win in-hand Saturday evening following a 3-2 comeback triumph over No. 17 Reinhardt.
The positive outcome for the Skyhawks on the road dropped the Eagles to 28-12 and 14-9 in the league.
"Very disappointing weekend for our team," head coach Jonathan Burton said. "We have been flirting with these types of weekends and today they came to fruition. Bad defense, bad baserunning and bad offensive execution.
"We pitched very well this weekend, only giving up seven runs, but we lost the series; that can't happen. We have to be better at home and be better offensively and defensively. This is a better baseball team than what we showed but you can't hide from the results."
Albert Mora singled to center for the game's first RBI in the bottom of the fourth, and then the lead was doubled in the sixth on an RBI-double off the bat of Andres Ugarte. Down, 2-0, the visitors got a big single in the seventh to tie the score a 2-2.
The Skyhawks' momentum continued into the eighth with another tally – this time on an error in the outfield that would've ended the frame.
Reinhardt had an immediate chance to do damage in the eighth with back-to-back hit-by-pitches, but a strikeout and a double play ended the threat.
Point snuck away victorious despite being outhit, 8-3. Individually, Keven Jimenez was 2-for-3.
Parker Miller got a no-decision after seven innings and a pair of strikeouts.
Back-to-back road outings in Tennessee are up next for the hometown squad beginning with Cumberland on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
