WALESKA, Ga. – The Eagles have now won five-consecutive games on the diamond following a doubleheader sweep over visiting Viterbo (Wis.), 4-1 and 10-9, Monday night inside Ken White Baseball Field.
With the pair of victories, Reinhardt improves to 17-6, although the process of completing the final victory didn't go smoothly.
"What a wild game two; just when you think things are under control the game tells you to never quit playing," Lead Eagle Jonathan Burton said. "Viterbo did a great job of playing from the first pitch to the last. We are very fortunate to win that game; but hats off to them.
"On the other hand, so many new pitchers and position players got a chance to play today and did very well. Learning from wins is so much better than learning from losses. We have two extremely tough challenges on our hands over the next two days and we are going to have to clean it up quickly."
Game 1: Reinhardt 4, Viterbo 1
- The V-Hawks got on the board early with one in the first inning, but the Eagles scored two runs in the second and sixth.
- Reinhardt was able to be victorious despite collecting only four hits.
- Ben Heideman had three RBIs on a groundout and a 2-run single; Nick Sanders hit a sacrifice fly.
- Gianmarco Marcelletti and Malique Foreman both had stolen bases.
- Sawyer Stevens got the win on the mound with four innings pitched and four strikeouts.
Game 2: Reinhardt 10, Viterbo 9
- The Eagles jumped out-front this time with a combined 10 runs in the first four frames and a 10-1 lead.
- The hometown team added some more pop at the plate with 14 hits in the rubber match.
- Viterbo was able to make things interesting, however, with a six-spot in the top of the fifth on a half-dozen hits.
- A 2-RBI single in the seventh got Reinhardt on edge, but Alex Watkins locked down the save in relief.
- Ben Lepik was 4-for-4 in the win and Albert Mora gathered four RBIs.
Baseball action continues tomorrow as No. 9 Indiana Tech comes to town for a primetime showdown beginning at 6 p.m.
