LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Eagles scored runs in six different innings Sunday afternoon against St. Andrews (N.C.) – including the final five frames of the contest – to earn a sweep over the Knights in North Carolina by the count of 7-2.
Reinhardt is now 15-6 after the three-game sweep and currently sits atop the standings within the Appalachian Athletic Conference at 5-1.
"Sweeps are hard to do in league play and road sweeps are even harder," head coach Jonathan Burton said. "We weren't our best this weekend, but we were good enough. Lots of baseball for this team in the next seven days, so hopefully we can get on a bit of a run and get a little more consistent in certain areas.
"I am proud of the guys as we battled through some sickness this week; some guys really stepped up for us."
Andres Ugarte (3-for-5) got the game started with a double to right, and then Austin Heideman (courtesy runner) would later cross home plate on an error. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third tied the score at 1-1, but the Eagles would jump back for good in the fifth inning on an RBI-double from M.J. Arnold.
From there, Reinhardt got individual runs in the sixth through eighth innings on an RBI-single from Nick Sanders, an Ugarte blast and a Sanders SAC fly. In the ninth, however, the Eagles put up two more compliments of a fielding error.
The Knights would snap the scoring spree with another SAC fly in the bottom of the ninth.
On the mound, Ethan Foley got the win after six innings pitched and three strikeouts.
The team is back on its home field tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against Viterbo (Wis.) at 2 p.m.
