Jonathan Burton is in his seventh season as head coach of Reinhardt Baseball.

The lead Eagle – who was named the fourth head coach in team history on May 28, 2018, after spending seven seasons with the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and three seasons with the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene- has a career mark of 546-341 (.616 winning percentage) while sporting a 199-112 record (.640) in six years with Reinhardt.

The 2024 season went down as the most successful season in school history. The team shattered long-standing records at the NAIA World Series blasting 30 runs in one game while also winning the Regular Season AAC Conference title for the first time in school history. Not to be outdone, Reinhardt hosted its first-ever NAIA Opening Round and swept through the Waleska bracket clinching its second trip to Lewiston Idaho for the NAIA World Series. While at the World Series Reinhardt won their first three games only to drop their final two, ending a historical championship run and finishing 3rd with an overall record of 44-18.

Under Burton’s guidance, the Eagles boasted one of their most memorable offensive seasons in school history breaking team records in Hits (698), Doubles (128), Home Runs (116), RBI (512), and Slugging Percentage (.575).  Individual and career records were also shattered by Dylan Lewis–(Single-season home runs), and Jarrett Burney (Career Hits). The team also recorded its highest national ranking at number 9 in the NAIA.

For its effort on the diamond this past season, Reinhardt saw a trio of players named All-AAC (Jarrett Burney, Andrew Herbert, Nash Crowell, Tucker Zdunich, Dylan Lewis, Brett Allen – AAC First Team) and Marcerio Allen (AAC Second Team). Herbert, Lewis, and Crowell were also chosen as NAIA All-Americans. Six players were also rewarded for their outstanding play at the NAIA World Series landing on the All-Tournament Team; Matty Maurer, Andrew Herbert, Tucker Zdunich, Dylan Lewis, Lance Dockery, and Brett Allen.  Burton was also recognized as the AAC Coach of the Year ( his 3rd in 3 different conferences), and the ABCA/NAIA Regional Coach of the Year (his third).

In 16 seasons as a head coach Burton has coached (44) first-team All-Conference players, (31) second-team All-Conference Players, (12) NAIA All-Americans, (6) NAIA World Series All-Tournament players, (13) MLB Draft/Independent affiliated players, (53) NAIA Scholar Athletes, (156) All-Conference Scholar Athletes. With the Blue Raiders (248-161), Burton guided the team to back-to-back NAIA World Series appearances in Lewiston, Idaho (2015-16). Lindsey Wilson had some memorable campaigns under Burton, as he led the Blue Raiders to the program's second-straight appearance at the World Series in 2016, where Lindsey Wilson went 2-2 – the first pair of World Series wins in program history. The Blue Raiders finished the season ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll – the highest national ranking in team history – and the 44-25 record in 2016 was the fourth 40-win season in the last five years. During the aforementioned run for No. 1, Lindsey Wilson captured a share of the MSC regular-season title and also saw the program's first-ever All-World Series Team selections in Edgar Lebron and Aaron Ashton. For his efforts, Burton was named the ABCA/Diamond NAIA Regional Coach of the Year for the second time in 2016, also garnering the honor in 2015, where he led the Blue Raiders to the program's first-ever appearance in the World Series and earned the highest ranking in team history at No. 10. He also has been selected once by his peers as the conference coach of the year in two different conferences (Mid-South and TranSouth).

Prior to taking over the Blue Raider program, Burton spent three seasons at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) where he compiled a 99-68 overall record. Before becoming the head coach, he spent four seasons as the Trojans' assistant coach.

In addition to conference and national honors, four of Burton's players have been drafted – Bautista by the Cubs in 2015, P.J. Francescon by the Cubs and Craig Stem by the Dodgers in 2011, and Tim Dunn by the Reds in 2009. As a student-athlete, Burton amassed a 16-10 record with a 3.78 earned run average while playing at Volunteer State Community College and later at Trevecca. He was awarded the Coaches' Award in 2002 and 2004 and was a member of the team that broke the school record with 44 wins in 2004.
